Are you following the global School Strike for Climate this week? I am infinitely impressed with the young, dedicated Swedish woman, Greta Thunberg, who is spearheading the cause! If you haven’t heard her message first-hand yet, I strongly encourage you to watch her recent interview with Amy Goodman. She is truly a hero of our time!
If that’s not enough to inspire you, have you seen A Message from the Future with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? It awed me with artistic beauty, filled me with unabashed hope, and moved me to tears – I hope this video reaches every woman, man, and child in America and across the globe!
Bill McKibbon, who authored a book on risks of climate change 30 years ago, wrote for The Guardian this week giving all of us plenty of tangible, urgent reasons to join in – “strike because what we do this decade will matter for hundreds of thousands of years” and “strike because we’ve already lost half the animals on the planet since 1970” and “strike because the UN estimates unchecked climate change could create a billion refuges this century” and “strike so you can look your grandkid – or anyone’s – in the eye.” So take your pick, and go to Global Climate Strike to find out what is happening in your community. According to the Willamette Week, Portland teen activists are leading a march from City Hall that will culminate in a rally in SE Portland – I’ll be there. Will you?
Speaking of environmentally-conscious, have you heard of the forthcoming electric VW bus? Can’t wait for it to make its debut – let the good times roll!
Happy Hump Day, all! Cheers till next time!
